Health Economics
Abacus developed a pharmacoeconomic model for a newly licensed product for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Initially used to inform final pricing decisions, the model was the key part of a successful submission to the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) managed by Abacus, gaining approval for the product in Scotland. On the back of this, Abacus converted the technical spreadsheet into a user-friendly windows model for use by the clients’ sales team - three years later, this tool was still being used to demonstrate the economic and cost benefits associated with the product.

Systematic Review
Abacus designed and conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis highlighting the influence of routine monitoring and clinical setting on the relative efficacy of established anticoagulant therapy. Outputs from the systematic review were used to develop a pharmacoeconomic model which showed that new products without the need for frequent monitoring may have significant clinical and economic benefits over established therapy.
